VIB APP

In groups of three, our class was tasked with ideating, designing, and prototyping an app for an outside client looking to design an app around vision boarding, wellness, and productivity.

Framework & Research

We started by developing research around our target audience as well as deciding what was essential to the app at its core according to our brief with the client.

We broke down our insights into three pillars we felt were most integral to the application and that would be the most impactful.

We decided to focus on organization, notifications, and high-quality imagery. We landed on these points under the assumption that these will be the most important takeaways for users from this application. The goal for VIB was to help users not only focus and visualize their goals but help actualize them.

We then began to develop features and define usage based on our main pillars.

Although we had a lot of ideas, we really wanted to focus on features that would help our users achieve their goals and make VIB an impactful tool for daily use.

We decided on a system to allow for the use of vision boards across devices, a notification-based goal tracking feature, and a practical image suggestion system to help make building vision boards as seamless and enjoyable as it would be in a physical state.

Lo-Fi Prototyping

We then started our process by mapping out wireframes to establish the user flow and the overall layout of the application and how we would integrate our base features in a seamless manner.

A key concern we made sure to focus on was to make sure that the user’s creative flow and focus would be undisturbed by the UI, and instead be a clear and useful guide even during the onboarding process.

High-Fidelity Prototype

We moved into higher fidelity prototypes where we began polishing our visualizations for the UI and user flow. We also developed a storyboard to showcase what a practical use of VIB might look like. It was also a goal of ours while constructing our prototype to make sure that our mobile application was just as seamless and straightforward to use as our web client.

Personal Reflection

This project really was a fantastic experience from what started as a basic idea and developed into a fully actualized and working concept for an application. Working in teams helped me better understand how to coordinate with different team member’s strengths during development. Throughout this project, I appreciated the opportunity to learn and understand my team member’s ideas and perspectives. This gave me an understanding of how to tackle possible internal hurdles our team may have come across during the design process. Overall, the experience was very informative as it was a rather practical capstone project that provided a real problem to solve without arbitrary guidelines.
